Becoming An Interpreter
To become an interpreter with Novas Languages, you should have:
- Competency in English as the source language (SL)
- Competency in the target language (TL)
- Knowledge of at least one public sector service in
the UK (e.g. health, local government, legal) - The ability to handle detailed information of a
personal and confidential nature - Awareness of cultural issues, customer care,
individual rights & responsibilities - An understanding of the responsibilities of a
professional interpreter - An understanding of the customer – interpreter
relationship - The ability to manage one’s own work as a self-
employed interpreter - The ability to work with a wide range of people,
including staff in public sector agencies - The right to work in the UK
