Novas Scarman Group Manchester have successfully secured an extension to their contract with Manchester City Council until March 2010.
The Manchester team currently focuses on providing infrastructure support to new and emerging community and voluntary groups. The contract has a number of different components including
- Capacity building (informal community learning called “Learning Together” and OCN accredited Can Do Coaching).
- Neighbourhood based support from experienced community development workers covering funding, networking, action planning, crisis management, group dynamics, legal structures etc
- Newsletter. Produced bi-monthly the newsletter is available electronically and in printed format to meet the needs of community and voluntary groups. It includes a spotlight section for groups to share and celebrate successes.
- Online facility – this is our Manchester-specific website (www.thescarmantrustmanchester.org). The website has a funding search facility for community groups to use, news, policies and information relevant to the community and voluntary sector.
- We also pioneered the Manchester Online Community Directory (MOCD). This is an online directory of community and voluntary groups operating across the city of Manchester. There are currently 500 groups listed.
We are currently a team of 8 consisting of NW Regional Director, Assistant Director, Office Manager, Can Do Exchange Manager and 4 experienced development workers. We are in the process of developing our team action plan for the next 2 years that will feed into the overall strategic plan of Novas Scarman Group.
