As part of National Learning at Work Day on 22nd May, the Learning and Development team within the Novas Scarman Group organised a Power Learning event at the London Head Office n Camden.

Three members of staff kindly volunteered to deliver a session of their choice:

  • Introduction to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (from Stephen Covey’s book of the same name) – Jennifer Aldridge
  • “Don’t complain – campaign: six steps to making a difference” – Titus Alexander
  • Fundamentals for a Successful Work-Life Balance – Christofi Christou

The sessions were informal and interactive allowing the attendees to contribute and discuss their ideas on the subjects with their peers. This also provided an opportunity for staff different departments and from the previously separate Novas Group and Scarman Trust to meet and talk with each other in a relaxed environment.

A customer, John, who creates much of his artwork in the Novas Sculpture Studio in Camden, also volunteered his time to deliver a hands-on workshop session entitled Wood-burning Engravings. John brought in some of his wood-burning artwork, and some other pieces, to show the attendees the type of art that he creates. John demonstrated how he creates his wood-burning engravings, and the attendees were given the opportunity to produce their own engravings on individual bread boards, which revealed that many of the attendees have an artistic talent.
