European Commission's Gold Prize for Adult Education

The European Commission awarded its Gold Prize for Adult Education to CEJI, and its partner organisations, for its Religious Diversity and Anti-Discrimination Training programme. Recognising CEJI and its partners’ groundbreaking work on religious diversity and intercultural education in Europe, the prize is a part of the European Awards for Lifelong Learning.
Terry Price of Novas Scarman Wales has been heavily involved in the design and delivery of the training programme for four years. It is a partnership effort led by CEJI (Centre European Juif d’Information) based in Brussels, Novas Scarman Group (Wales), Multifaith Centre in Derby University, Partners Bulgaria Foundation, Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association, La Ligue de l’Enseignement in Normandy, and the Islamic-Christian Study Centre in Copenhagen.
The 5-day training is aimed at experienced anti-discrimination trainers from all over Europe and has been delivered in England, Bulgaria, Italy, France and Turkey with another English language version planned for Brussels later in the year. The partners are currently working on evaluating the programme and producing French and German language versions. Participants can receive accreditation through the University of Derby.
So far three Novas Scarman staff - Guy Nokes, Noleen Mariappen and Jane Emmanuel - have completed the programme. Attendance and costs are supported by mobility grants from the EU.
