Becoming An Interpreter

To become an interpreter with Novas Languages, you should have:

  • Competency in English as the source language (SL)
  • Competency in the target language (TL)
  • Knowledge of at least one public sector service in
    the UK (e.g. health, local government, legal)
  • The ability to handle detailed information of a
    personal and confidential nature
  • Awareness of cultural issues, customer care,
    individual rights & responsibilities
  • An understanding of the responsibilities of a
    professional interpreter
  • An understanding of the customer – interpreter
    relationship
  • The ability to manage one’s own work as a self-
    employed interpreter
  • The ability to work with a wide range of people,
    including staff in public sector agencies
  • The right to work in the UK
