New Report Recommends Listening to Brighton Residents
Wednesday 25 June 2008
Novas Scarman Group's Community Development (South East) team have just completed a joint research project with The University of Sussex (Institute of Development Studies), University of Brighton (Health and Social Policy Research Centre) and East Brighton New Deal for Communities (NDC).
- It was a research project developed and delivered with residents of Moulsecoomb.
- It was an opportunity for people to get their voices and views heard.
- It looked at how people get involved in making life better in their own communities.
- It acknowledged that people living in an area have knowledge about what is needed and what works and that this can be used to make public services more effective.
- The research looked at what residents can offer, what they get out of such involvement and what their experiences were.
- The aim was to compare two ways in which residents can get involved
1. by taking part in the state funded East Brighton NDC
2. and through smaller community led activities which were funded and supported by the Novas Scarman community support team in the South East.
"My main concern is the fact that there’s an awful lot of very smart people in the area, there’s a lot of skills, a lot of opportunity, a lot of things to offer and it’s not being used." Moulsecoomb resident

A useful event. I hope there are some ongoing results – e.g. participatory budgets.
