DOMESTIC VIOLENCE REPORT LAUNCHED
Friday 22 January 2010
During the week of 23rd November 2009, Novas Scarman held a number of successful events to raise awareness of domestic abuse and push for positive change.
Amongst these, we held a Conference in Cheltenham, attended by 80 practitioners, provider organisations and policy makers.
The event was opened by Baroness Royall, Leader of the House of Lords, who is Novas Scarman’s domestic abuse champion in Gloucestershire. The Baroness said: 'Novas Scarman's IDVA service is a crucial tool in reducing victimisation and withdrawal from the courts. With 600 women, 38 men, and over 1000 children benefitting over the last year alone, your work is saving lives. Alongside the IDVA service, the Central Allocation and Referral Point is a brilliant innovation - for people in Gloucestershire to know they can ring one number for help with domestic abuse must be a godsend. 800 callers have benefitted in the last 12 months.
'One of the things we should celebrate is the great multi-agency partnerships you have formed in Gloucestershire - it forms a much better system of support for women and men experiencing domestic abuse, and their children. The Gloucestershire Public Protection Bureau is best practice in action - access to all agencies under one roof, including the CARP and IDVA services, is so important'.
'Domestic voilence is a devastating crime, and we have to change attitudes from the playground upwards. '
