PATH Trainee - Assistant Countryside Ranger

PATH National Ltd is a successful Positive Action Skills Development Organisation designed to train and develop people from Black and Minority Ethnic Groups in managerial and professional occupations where they are under represented.

We are working in partnership with Hampshire County Council who want to increase the diversity of their workforce and address the under representation of Black and Minority Ethnic Groups within the department of Culture, Communities and Rural Affairs, and we would therefore encourage applications from these groups.

The Countryside Service manages a wide range of sites in the county which provide many opportunities for people to access and enjoy the countryside.
We have seven major country parks, and several nature reserves and historic sites which together provide a wide and diverse range of places to visit. Staunton Country Park and Queen Elizabeth Country Park have both received the prestigious Green Flag Award, highlighting the outstanding quality of Hampshire County Councils countryside.

We protect and conserve the heritage of landscape, wildlife and historic places and our sites are host to a wide range of activities including education. We also protect and maintain over 4,500 km of footpaths, bridleways and byways which enable people to access and explore the county.

  • 2 years practical work experience in a real work environment,
  • Relevant development and training courses,
  • Continuous support provided by PATH National and Hampshire County Council,
  • Time off/Day release to attend a funded college or university course to pursue a relevant qualification.

Essential Requirements:

  • You must be eligible to qualify for the ‘Home Student’ college/university fees (e.g. as a UK national or another EU Country),
  • Possess a good standard of education, and/or practical relevant experience,
  • Demonstrate practical skills and knowledge in conservation, ecology, estates or countryside management or other appropriate experience such as horticulture or animal husbandry,
  • Must be willing to manage combined work and study,
  • Be physically fit and active,
  • Possess knowledge of technical issues relevant to the discipline area,
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team,
  • Able to communicate effectively with colleagues and members of the public, demonstrating tact and diplomacy.

Hampshire County Council Museums Service manages 16 community museums and historic sites across the county, 11 of them in partnership with District Councils, as well as supporting and advising many independent museums.
Specialist staff based at our Headquarters, just outside Winchester, care for and manage a wide range of collections and, with our staff based at local museums, make them available in many different ways. We offer a touring exhibitions programme, an outreach service, an extensive schools service and special events throughout the year.

We are the lead partner for the South East Museums Hub which was formed as part of the ‘Renaissance in the Regions’ programme, a Government funded initiative to re-vitalise regional museums.

  • Able to communicate effectively with professional colleagues and audiences and members of the public,
  • Demonstrate an interest in a career in museums.

Full-time (37.5hrs) Women’s Services Support Worker

Starting Salary: £18,891 rising to £20,777

Women’s Services consists of two hostels, Dean Crescent and Spring House, as well as move on units. The hostels provide 37 units of temporary accommodation to single homeless women. The hostels are accessible 24 hours a day and provide support to women with issues such as mental health, drugs, alcohol, domestic abuse and women being discharged from prison.

  • You will be able to deal effectively with conflict and challenging behaviour.
  • Form supportive, professional relationships with customers.
  • Manage a caseload of customers and carry out basic administrative duties.
  • Assess diverse and complex needs.
  • Promote customer involvement.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of safe working practices.

Opportunities for Trainee Community Organisers

Are you aged 18-24 and interested in working with local communities? Have you been claiming Job Seekers Allowance for six months or more? Would you like to learn skills in community organising, campaigning and advocacy?

Novas Scarman are recruiting five community organiser trainees for a six month programme, 25 hours a week at £5.80 an hour to:

  • Learn community organising, campaigning and advocacy skills
  • Facilitate learning, mutual support and networking among community groups
  • Provide practical development support for individual and collective projects
  • Signpost projects to other useful agencies
  • Act as an advocate with projects
  • Facilitate use of online social media where appropriate
  • Use & maintain a database of contacts
  • Produce publicity and promote programmes through media and local networks

The posts will include a weekly training session in community organising and campaigning, and work with community groups and voluntary organisations in London.
