Novas Employment Works (NEW)

NEW Programme - NOVAS EMPLOYMENT WORKS

At Novas Scarman we firmly believe in empowering customers and promoting their sense of self-worth and social inclusion through meaningful initiatives that involve them. Customer involvement is a fundamental principle of our organisation and we encourage this on as many levels as possible.

Providing training and employment opportunities for customers has been recognised by Novas Scarman as a significant step towards increasing empowerment and promoting an individual's life chances, as well as helping to maintain a home and independence.

NEW is a tailor made programme, with individual assessment and support from Novas Scarman staff. The programme is open to Novas Scarman customers and ex-customers and aims to offer 100 customers each year employment opportunities.

The NEW programme offers three options:

  • Learning Programmes - voluntary
  • Employment tasters - voluntary
  • Traineeship - paid

The Learning Programmes within this include:

City Lit - A learning programme for long-term homeless people and ex-offenders. The aim is to enable people to work in the supported housing sector.

Business In The Community - A ready to work programme in Administration and Office roles within 2 week long work experience roles.

The Employment Taster - This is the opportunity to Work Shadow or complete Work Experience within one of the Novas Scarman departments or schemes.

Traineeship - This is 6 month paid employment within a Novas Scarman scheme or department - ranging from Barrista traineeship in one of our coffee shops, galleries or our fashion shop. In addition to this there is Housing Support Worker training based at one of our residential schemes. Within these initiatives an individual Training Plan is drawn up in addition to undertaking an NVQ qualification.
