Offenders

We work with 600 offenders - or people at risk of re-offending - each year through our support and outreach services.

The Novas Scarman Group provides residential and community based residential offender services. Our services aim to address the support needs of ex-offenders leaving penal institutions and those vulnerable to offending. We offer priority to those people who have a current probation order, parole licence, or formal contact with the criminal justice system.

By offering short, targeted support to ex-offenders, and those vulnerable to offending, we help them to establish the stability they need to find employment and deal with any drug or alcohol dependency issues they may have. In a wider sense we believe that through our offender services we can positively contribute to the communities where we are based, as a partner in local authorities' community safety strategies.

We are flexible in response to our customers' needs and involve them at every stage in the work we do with them, seeking to assist them to develop skills to sustain themselves independently in the community.

Our Community Support Services provide an opportunity for ex-offenders to regain some normality in their lives. Some may have been in prison for long enough to feel institutionalised. Staff within our offender services provide support around basic skills such as budgeting and cooking and our partner agencies provide additional help with developing job skills and employment. The aim of our shared housing is to resettle ex-offenders back into society with their newfound skills.

Our floating support services work alongside newly accommodated ex-offenders to enable them to manage their tenancy successfully and assist them to re-establish themselves within the community.

Opportunities for customer involvement, volunteering, training and employment within the Group are available to people using our offender services.
